IFD Master Workshop: Building Cost Efficiencies in Pattern Making with Alyson Clair

January 12, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm | $75
Building Cost Efficiencies in Pattern Making with Alyson Clair

Building Cost Efficiencies in Pattern Making

Pattern makers don’t just create patterns from original designs. They are also responsible for understanding critical components in making patterns that are cost- and production-friendly. Join pattern maker Alyson Clair in this workshop to learn about pattern maker efficiencies and ways to find cost savings through pattern pieces. Learn how style and shape details can increase best fabric usage. Explore fabric widths and how they, along with cut ratios, affect your cost. Think creatively to increase efficiencies and reduce waste.

This workshop is beneficial not only for pattern makers but for anyone involved in the apparel design process who wants an understanding of the role of patterns and how they affect your end cost.

Alyson Clair is a native Oregonian and graduated from the Art Institute of Portland with a BS in Apparel Design. She spent her first 4 years in the apparel industry working in a domestic factory, where she obtained practical manufacturing experience pattern making, grading, and marking. She has worked for international brands like Nike, Wilson Tennis, and Champion, with technical proficiency in compression, swim, and spandex. Fit is one of her passions, and she has expertise in Women’s Plus sizing. Along with her technical design work, she has had a small women’s dress line made in Portland for the last 10 years, focused on knits. In 2014, she wrote The Colette Guide to Sewing with Knits and released their first knit sewing pattern range.

About Inside Fashion Design
What you didn’t know, you will know.

Inside Fashion Design is an intimate behind the scenes look into the world of apparel design. As two designers, with a collective forty years in the industry, we’ve had the privilege of working at and being part of the vibrant, innovative, culture of Nike, a little company founded on the principle of design. Later came Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, and others. Throughout we mastered our craft, and upon feeling an entrepreneurial pull, opened our own consulting studio called Creative Capital Design four years ago.

Given that one of the most joyful aspects of our work is nurturing and mentoring new talent, we went searching for a platform to do this beyond our studio walls. And Inside Fashion Design was born. Our belief is that all who live for or have a curiosity for fashion design should have the opportunity to explore it. And so, we open the door to our library of expertise and resources, inviting you in to experience them. Design workshops, tutorials, trend talks and exclusive insider interviews. Here you can study the wide array of industry disciplines, including roles you may be unaware of but are integral to making the cogs of a company turn. There are so many possibilities for discovering pleasure in artistic fulfillment.

We aspire to nourish our creative, cerebral selves. We’ll measure our teachings not only by the knowledge imparted, but more importantly, by the enthusiasm it generates. Because any spark we can implant in your inquisitive soul may someday be the new heartbeat of the fashion industry.
So please, dive in.
