Design For Good & Wilde Town: Telling the Story of Our LGBT Pioneers

February 11, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Design For Good & Wilde Town: Telling the Story of Our LGBT Pioneers

Calling all socially-minded creatives in Portland!

It’s 2019—the year of Stonewall Uprising’s 50th anniversary, which marked the beginning of queer liberation. As people around the world come together to celebrate this momentous occasion, some members of early liberation movements (or queer pioneers) are going back into the closet due to fears of discrimination in elderly health and social services.

AIGA Portland Design for Good and Wilde Town are partnering on a project to raise awareness and prevent LGBT elderly isolation by showcasing and empowering Portland’s diverse community of queer pioneers.

Creatives are invited to design artifacts for a divergent, visual storytelling exhibit spotlighting Portland’s queer community. Each participant will have a month to use Wilde Town’s ethnographic research to create their concept through their choice of storytelling medium. All participants’ work will be featured in a final show on May 9, 2019. This is a great opportunity for Portland-based makers and designers to share their talents and connect with like-minded, local creatives!

Interested in the project? An informational meeting will be held on Monday, February 11 for all potential participants. RSVP here. Questions? Email Joey at: j03y.wang@gmail.com

Resources & Links
Stonewall Uprising took place in New York City in June 1969. The riot is credited as the catalyst for the gay rights movement in the US and around the world.

AIGA Design for Good is a division of AIGA, the professional association for design. It supports local projects that use design thinking to address social change.

Wilde Town exists to empower LGBT baby boomers (our queer pioneers) to overcome the risk of marginalization and discrimination in later life by redefining the future of aging through self organization.
